FAQ on Service Taxation
Why is there a service charge under the RED BP biomass sustainability scheme?
To ensure the smooth and reliable operation of the RED BP scheme, we continuously incur costs by investing in the maintenance, development, auditing and quality assurance of the tool. We understand that this is an additional cost, but the continuity of these functions requires ongoing investment.
What is the service fee for the RED BP scheme?
The fee for participating in the RED BP scheme is 0,01 EUR/MWh of delivered wood chips volume.
When does the RED BP scheme fee take effect from and to whom does it apply?
The RED BP fee comes into force from 1 June 2025. It applies to both the buyer and the seller when the biomass is delivered with a RED BP label after this date.
Who is subject to the RED BP scheme service charge in the RED BP scheme process chain?
The charge only applies to those chain participants in the process who supply and/or purchase sustainable biomass with the RED BP label. The full process is outlined in the RED BP declaration scheme:
I am registered in the RED BP scheme, but I am not contracting or supplying biomass with a RED BP label. Will I be subject to the RED BP scheme fee?
No, you won’t, the fee only applies to sustainable biomass delivered. Registration or participation without a supply with a RED BP label does result in a fee being charged.
I am a raw material preparer, and I declare biomass raw materials in the RED BP scheme. Will the RED BP scheme fee apply to me?
No, it won’t, the RED BP fee does not apply to you.
If I accept the changed terms and conditions regarding the charging of the RED BP service, what should I do?
No action is needed if you wish to continue using these services. The new pricing will be applied automatically from June 1, 2025.
When will the invoice for the RED BP scheme service be issued and when will it need to be paid?
The invoice for the RED BP scheme service will be issued at the end of the month.
How are invoices issued when transaction quantity corrections are made?
Invoices are issued for the previous calendar month based on the quantity of delivered fuel confirmed in the quality reports. For example, the invoice for May will be issued in June.
How is the RED BP service fee applied when the exchange participants involved in the transaction use different sustainability schemes (such as the RED BP scheme and/or other voluntary schemes)?

We respect everyone’s choice. RED BP is a voluntary scheme, so if you decide to stop using it, please inform us at [email protected] and from 1 June 2025 you will no longer be able to make transfers with the RED BP label.
Biomass can be supplied under an existing contract through any voluntary sustainability certificate recognised in the European Union that meets the requirements of the RED II Directive. If you do not currently have another certified scheme, you will be able to supply with a RED BP label under the conditions that come into force on 1 June 2025 – until such time as you obtain a certificate from another scheme. For all new contracts, please do not submit orders with a RED BP tag to the auctions from 1 June 2025.
