JUNE 2018 ENERGY EXCHANGE: TRADE OVERVIEW

Biomass Prices Are Rising Not Even Halfway through the Summer Season

The beginning of the summer season 2018 significantly changed the purchasing strategy of heat producers. Most of the buyers bought biomass under one-week and one-month contracts. Analysis of the price changes in the summer seasons of 2015-2018 shows that the prices of both short-term and long-term contracts have been rising not even halfway through this summer season. Comparing the volumes and prices of contracts concluded by the end of June for the supply during this summer season with the last summer, it is evident that the prices of one-week contracts increased by 12%, and prices of long-term contracts by 17%. Interestingly, despite the growth of the price of long-term contracts, it is still lower than the price of one-week contracts, while in the summer season of 2015 and 2016 the opposite was observed.
