Biomass and heat trade statistics January of 2022

  • The value of the BWCS (BALTPOOL Wood Chips SPOT) LT index reached 25,65 Eur/MWh. Compared to the value of December, the index has decreased by 1%, and compared to the results of the same period last year, the value of the index is 135% higher.
  • Compared to the results of December, the total amount of delivered biomass decreased by 15% to 813,110 MWh (28% of the amount delivered under long-term contracts). The volume of delivered biomass increased by 11% compared to the same period last year.
  • The supply price of chopped wood for the 2021-2022 heating season currently averages 22,17 Eur/MWh.
  • Comparing the heating seasons of 2020-2021, the supply price increased by 105%.
  • The prices of transactions concluded in Latvia in January amounted to 27,90 Eur/MWh.
  • The prices of transactions concluded in Estonia in January amounted to 19,71 Eur/MWh.

HEAT AUCTION STATISTICS

  • In January 2022, an auction was held for the purchase of heat for February of 2022.
  • The weighted average purchase price of heat was 4,03 ct/kWh and was 13% higher than the heat supplied in January (3,58 ct/kWh). Compared to the results of the same period last year, the price is 84% higher (2,19 ct/kWh).
  • The amount of heat purchased in February amounted to 627,423 MWh, which is 9 % less than the amount of heat purchased in January. The amount of heat purchased increased by 10% compared to the results of the same period last year.
  • Sellers offered to sell 670,632 MWh of heat at auction, which is 9% less than in January. Compared to January of the previous year, the amount of heat offered for sale at auctions decreased by 4%.
